Understanding the various foil stamping categories

Foiling is part of our name and it’s what we do best. As the years have progressed, the company has become widely known for our ability to provide outstanding results, something we are very proud of. With our talents, working in tandem with the assistance of well-respected manufacturers like Poli-Film, Renolit, and Novacel, we aim to bring you nothing less than first class foiling services.

It used to be the case that using gold foil was a very hands-on job. These days however, just like the majority of tasks, it’s now accomplished via machinery. After you’ve settled on a design, it is etched into what’s referred to as a foiling die. This is similar to your standard rubber stamp, only with the exception that it’s comprised of metal. The die is placed onto a heated stamping press. A thin roll of foil fits in between your substrate, such as paper, and the die. Then, the two join in unison with quite a substantial level of pressure.

Nearly every foil stamping apparatus falls into one of several categories, and we’re going to go through some of them, starting with clamshell press. This variety of press closes in a fashion resembling that of a clam, hence the name. Usually, mechanisms of this nature come with a minor footprint but a sizeable amount of pressure. It’s also a simple matter to switch foils and dies, letting you alter your set up as needed. This makes the clamshell brilliant for smaller runs.

With straight stamp presses, your die travels right down, with paper being fed both into and out of the stamp zone. Due to the paper’s undeviating path, these presses are quicker than the clamshell variants. Since the set up time is longer however, they’re more suited to prolonged runs.

At Foiling Services, our foils can be applied to a wide assortment of materials, such as wood, metal, and plastic based products. The collection of interior and exterior foil we use is impressive to say the least, and includes holographic, brushed, transparent, marble effects to name some. Finding the perfect material should be no challenge at all.
