The latest innovations from Kurz

While you might not expect it, there are interesting developments in foil quite regularly. One to watch carefully is recyclable foils. Many manufacturers are working to improve the quality and sustainability, ensuring they align with customer demands. It can have a really positive impact on the environment as well as the perception of brands.

Kurz is one of the global leaders in foil. They’ve had some interesting new things to show off in the last six months. Let’s have a look at some of the major ones.

Automotive lighting effects

Recyclable foilsEasily the most interesting new development is using foil and mini LEDs to create decorative automotive panels. Kurz, working with Osram, has developed a new in-mould decoration technique. Their new hybrid process can produce customisable panels for different vehicles, so it could have a huge impact on the market.

The interesting thing here is how everything works to make fantastic panels. They combine a hard coat, decorative foil layers, a pattern with mini LEDs and transparent wires, and a primer. The patterns can be almost anything, including animation effects and 3D lighting effects. As a result, it unlocks a whole new world of applications to create display panels for vehicles.

Thinner products

Another thing that Kurz is celebrating is their continued push to innovate with recyclable foils. They’ve made foils even thinner, reducing them from 12 microns to 6. This saves resources and helps with recycling.

Additionally, they’ve reduced the thickness of the film carrier by 50%. This also saves resources, helps with recycling, and reduces their carbon footprint.

A wider range

One of Kurz’s biggest selling points is they have a really broad range of different foils. It means clients can be creative and choose the perfect one for any need. The number of options is also even broader today thanks to the development of several new ranges. This includes:

  • Lumafin – translucent or semi-translucent foils with over 700 colours
  • Silverline – foils with impressive 3D effects
  • Lightline Invisible – foils with holographic patterns in various colours

Two new machines

Even more recently, Kurz India showcased a pair of new machines at the PrintPack event alongside recyclable foils. The first is the Cold Transfer Distorun. The module is precise and versatile, reducing waste and making foiling more sustainable.

The other piece of equipment is the DM Smartliner. It offers high volume digital embellishment, able to handle an amazing 3,100 sheets per hour. It can provide customisable holographic prints as well as metallic overprinting.

Tooling

Finally, Kurz has been expanding their range of tools for stamping machines. Their H+M stamping tools can deliver high impact designs with impressive visual effects.
